Our take

The Wrecking Crew pairs Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista as estranged half-brothers investigating their father's death in Hawaii. Rated R for strong bloody violence, sexual material, pervasive language, and some drug use, it is a loud action comedy with dismemberment, cocaine, heavy drinking, casino scenes, and penis-shaped prop jokes. Profanity is near-constant. Grief over the father motivates the plot but the tone stays jokey. Adults only; even mature teens will find the language and gore excessive

Uplifting themes

Brotherly reconciliation is the arc, but violence dominates

Story (may spoil tone)

Estranged half-brothers Jonny and James reunite after their father's mysterious death. As they search for the truth, buried secrets reveal a conspiracy threatening to tear their family apart.
