The Sheep Detectives

Movie 2026 109 min Comedy, Family, Mystery Last reviewed 1 Sep 2026
Official Rating PG ClearAge 8+ Quality ★★★★☆

Our take

The Sheep Detectives is rated PG for thematic material, some violent content, and brief language. It plays like a family whodunit, yet the shepherd's murder, a sheep friend's death, and fights with snarling dogs can unsettle kids under eight. Language stays mild, crap and damn, and romance is limited to flirting. Whiskey and wine appear in adult scenes. Best for ages eight and up who enjoy mysteries and can handle honest talk about loss

Uplifting themes

Themes of courage, teamwork, inclusion, and honoring those you lose run through the mystery Lily models bravery and clever detective work; George is remembered as a kind protector Kids may pick up basics of clue-gathering, alibis, and how cozy mysteries build toward a reveal

Story (may spoil tone)

George Hardy is a shepherd who reads detective novels to his beloved sheep every night, assuming they can't possibly understand. But when a mysterious incident disrupts life on the farm, the sheep realize they must become the detectives. As they follow the clues and investigate human suspects, they prove that even sheep can be brilliant crime-solvers.

Talk after watching

  • Lily solves the case by weighing clues instead of guessing. What evidence convinced you before the big reveal?
  • George's death and another sheep's loss sit at the heart of the story. How does remembering someone help even when they are gone?
