Our take

I Know Who You Are (Zhua Te Wu) is a Mandarin period drama, not an action thriller. A public security officer spends decades convinced his neighbor is a Kuomintang sleeper agent while both men's families grow entwined. The story moves through the Great Leap Forward, Cultural Revolution, famine, and reform eras with personal loss and political pressure rather than gunfights. Dialogue is in Mandarin. Best for teens interested in history and slow-burn character drama.

Uplifting themes

Neighborly bonds persist despite ideological rivalry Both men endure hardship while raising families in changing times

Story (may spoil tone)

On 1949 October 1, the day of the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China, Xiao Dali enters the city and is reorganized as the director of the public security police station. He finds that primary school teacher Feng Jingbo is full of doubts. With the high vigilance of a soldier and the sense of responsibility of a public security official, Dali insists on partnering with Feng and becomes his neighbor. He then spends his whole life carrying out a nearly four-decade pursuit without regrets.
