Our take

The Rats: A Witcher Tale is a TV-MA fantasy heist spinoff about six young outlaws who recruit a washed-up Witcher to steal from a noble and kill a monster. Expect frequent f-word profanity, sword-and-monster action, ghosts and nightmare backstory, and a brothel infiltration plan. Characters reference torture, enslavement, and heavy drinking. This is franchise fare for older teens and adults, not family viewing

Uplifting themes

Trust and loyalty themes emerge once the gang stops double-crossing

Story (may spoil tone)

To pull off a daring heist, a gang of six misfit outlaws will have to do something they've never done before: trust each other β€” and a washed-up Witcher.

Talk after watching

  • The Rats start as thieves who distrust everyone. What has to change for them to work as a team?
  • A character called a monster turns out to be a cursed girl. How does the film ask who the real villain is?
