Our take
This is a gloomy live-action comic film set at Christmas, not a bright kids' Batman. A baby is thrown away in the opening. Later there are kidnappings, hard fights, and a plan that targets children. Catwoman is very sexual in look and talk. You will hear the s-word, the b-word, hell, and damn. Fine for older teens 15 and up with a parent. Too harsh and strange for younger teens
Uplifting themes
The film asks whether a city should dump people it finds ugly. Answers stay messy The hero tries to protect the city. Revenge and cruelty keep winning screen time
Story (may spoil tone)
The monstrous Penguin, who dwells in the sewers beneath Gotham, joins up with corrupt mayoral candidate Max Shreck to topple the Batman once and for all. But when Shreck's timid assistant Selina Kyle finds out, and Shreck tries to kill her, she's transformed into the sexy Catwoman. She teams up with the Penguin and Shreck to destroy Batman, but sparks fly unexpectedly when she confronts the caped crusader.

Talk after watching
- What should a city do when it treats some people as monsters?
- Is revenge the same thing as justice?
