Our take

All Night Wrong is a dark comedy about a blind date that spirals into a night with a stolen car, cash, and a dead body in the trunk. Frequent f-word and s-word language, a knife wound, bloody handprints, and covering-up panic keep the tone sharp. Sex talk, affair chatter, and a drug-dealer subplot. There is also grief for a young widow. Older teens only. Preferably with a parent for the crime and language load.

Uplifting themes

Honesty about insecurity peeks through the chaos now and then between the leads. Characters also try, imperfectly, to do the right thing when cornered. The leads mean well at times when loyalty kicks in and they look out for each other. They still keep choosing cover-ups over sense, so they are shaky role models The leads mean well at times when loyalty kicks in and they look out for each other. Story (may spoil tone)

Gary and Ell (a married man with an inferiority complex, and a grieving young widow) meet on a blind date only to wind up stealing a killer's car along with a dead body and $40,000.

Feelings of inferiority and rising panic sit under the comic crime plot for both leads. Characters cope messily rather than calmly when the pressure hits

Ell is a young widow, and that grief shapes why she wants one reckless night out. The loss is part of her mood here, not a long funeral subplot

Talk after watching

  • Gary and Ell keep making worse choices after finding the body. When is it smarter to stop and call for help?
  • Both characters carry private shame into a first date. How do people decide what to share early on?
