View all categoriesOur take
This classic sequel turns up the stakes when three exiled Kryptonians land on Earth and start bullying cities into submission. Big set pieces smash through Metropolis and the White House, with people thrown around and a few deaths left mostly off screen. Clark and Lois share a romantic night that clearly goes further than a kiss, though nothing graphic is shown. Mild swearing and cigarette smoking show up. We put this at 10, with a parent, for the city-wide fights, the adult romance, and Zod's cold threats.
Uplifting themes
Duty, sacrifice, and protecting ordinary people sit at the heart of Superman's choices. He learns that private happiness cannot erase public responsibility. The film still celebrates kindness over tyranny Superman keeps choosing the harder right path, even after a costly mistake. Lois is brave and sharp under pressure. Together they model care for each other without making cruelty look cool
Story (may spoil tone)

Zod's crew tosses cars, smashes buildings, and beats Superman once he is powerless. Moon deaths and a Paris bomb threat raise the stakes early. The Metropolis fight is long and loud, though blood stays limited

Hell, damn, and b-word phrase crop up in heated moments, plus a bit of mild coarse talk. It is scattered, not constant. Swear-sensitive homes will still notice the sharper lines

Clark and Lois end up in bed after he gives up his powers, with the film implying they slept together under the covers. There is kissing and a spotlight of flirtation elsewhere. Nothing explicit appears on camera

You get strong language in the background at parties and dinners, including Cigarette smoking shows up in several scenes as part of the period look. Drinks. Neither becomes a story focus

Zod's calm cruelty and the White House takeover give younger viewers real menace. Superman's power-loss transformation looks eerie, and a roadside beating leaves him bloody. The tone stays comic-book, but the threats feel personal

A child who tries to warn people about the villains is killed off screen when a police light is thrown at him. The moment is quick and not lingered on. It can still jar families watching with younger kids

Superman bleeds after a bully punches him, and astronauts die on the moon with brief struggle. Guns and bombs sit in the plot more than on camera. Injury detail stays mild for a big action film

Talk after watching
- Superman gives up a huge part of who he is for someone he loves. When is that brave, and when does it leave others unprotected?
- Zod rules by fear. How does Superman's way of using power look different?
