Why our age differs

Official is MA 15+. We say 16+ because the f-word runs through the day, cannabis comes up, and the romance with an older man is treated as exhilarating, not MA 15+

Our take

Of an Age is an Australian coming-of-age romance about ballroom dancer Kol and his friend's older brother. Kissing and attraction are central, with frequent strong swearing and talk of weed, tobacco, and drinking. We put it at around 16 and up for the language and adult relationship themes.

Uplifting themes

Honesty about ambition, class, and belonging emerges between the flirtation. Kol learns to name what he wants from life, not just the dance trophy Supporting friends and sister figures show tough love. The love interest is charming but morally complicated because of the age gap Window into Serbian diaspora ballroom culture in Australia. Good for teens exploring identity and first love with a parent nearby

Story (may spoil tone)

A Serbian ballroom dancer experiences an unexpected and intense 24-hour romance with a friend's older brother.

F-word bursts fill stress, car rides, and dance-floor panic, with s-word, hell, and dickhead nearby. Teens and young adults talk like real exhausted competitors. Constant enough to matter for middle-school viewers

Weed, tobacco, red wine, and drunk-uncle jokes pop up around parties. Use is casual; one line questions whether weed is working. Not glorified, but present

Skipping responsibilities for a wild day out could look tempting. The film shows fallout more than reward, but the rush is filmed beautifully

Stress and identity pressure sit under the dance plot. Not a focus, yet Kol spirals verbally when plans collapse

  • Kol is under pressure about dance and the future. Where does he find real support versus escape?
  • How does an age gap change what "consent" and "fairness" mean in a short romance?
