Why our age differs

Official is US PG-13. We say 16+ because real teen suicide cases tied to chatbots are discussed at length, and that weight needs older teens with a parent in the room

Our take

The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist combines a family's preparations for a baby with interviews about the possible harms and benefits of AI. The guide reports discussion of teen suicide and harmful chatbot responses, along with nuclear weapons, job loss, and other frightening possibilities. There is little on-screen violence, but the ideas are heavy. We put it at around 16 and up, with a parent to talk through the claims and fears raised.

Uplifting themes

The host argues that humans must take responsibility now, not wait for perfect rules. Hope and caution sit side by side Scientists, ethicists, and grieving parents model asking hard questions in public. The filmmaker admits fear while still preparing for fatherhood Families get a readable tour of what large language models are, why regulation debates matter, and how to talk with kids about bots. Strong spark for media-literacy homework

Story (may spoil tone)

A father-to-be tries to figure out what is happening with all this AI insanity, and explores the most powerful technology humanity has ever created... and what's at stake if we get it wrong.

Anxiety, depression, and suicide risk around social media and AI companions come up with parents and researchers. The tone is urgent advocacy, not a clinician's guide
