Our take

Bohemian Rhapsody follows Freddie Mercury's rise through concerts, relationships, and illness. Parties bring drinking and pills, same-sex attraction and marriage strain shape the story, and the later hospital scenes refer to AIDS. The guide does not describe explicit nudity or graphic medical detail. We put it at around 13 and up for the adult lifestyle and emotional ending.

Uplifting themes

Creativity, found family, and owning your voice shine through the excess. Reconciliation before Live Aid lands strong Band loyalty returns when pride cools, and Mary shows steadfast care. Freddie is flawed yet generous on stage Great hook for music history, Live Aid, and discussions about LGBTQ identity in a hostile era. Pair with fact-checking about timelines

Story (may spoil tone)

Singer Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and bass guitarist John Deacon take the music world by storm when they form the rock 'n' roll band Queen in 1970. Hit songs become instant classics. When Mercury's increasingly wild lifestyle starts to spiral out of control, Queen soon faces its greatest challenge yet – finding a way to keep the band together amid the success and excess.
