Our take
Desperado pairs a long explicit love scene with repeated gunfights and bloody deaths. Bars and tequila are part of the setting, and the language stays rough. We put it at around R 18+ and up, matching the displayed R 18+ 18+ classification, for the combined sexual content and sustained violence.
Uplifting themes
Protecting innocents gets a nod, yet most runtime celebrates stylish revenge The hero avenges friends but kills without due process. Carolina shows courage, not a kid-safe role model Entertainment-first action; any talk about cartels is cartoon-simple
Story (may spoil tone)
El Mariachi plunges headfirst into the dark border underworld when he follows a trail of blood to the last of the infamous Mexican drug lords, Bucho, for an action-packed, bullet-riddled showdown. With the help of his friend and a beautiful bookstore owner, El Mariachi tracks Bucho, takes on his army of desperados, and leaves his own trail of blood.

Talk after watching
- When a film makes revenge look stylish, how do you separate movie cool from real border violence?
- What would change if this story ended in court instead of a one-man massacre?
