Our take

The rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt makes the racing exciting, but Rush also shows what a crash can do to a driver. The fire and hospital recovery are hard to watch. Sex scenes, nudity, frequent swearing and Hunt's drinking and partying make this one for MA 15+ and up in our house.

Uplifting themes

The film shows two opposites pushing each other to improve and eventually respecting each other. Courage, hard work, and recovery after a terrible setback matter Lauda's determination to return after injury is inspiring, while Hunt's charm hides reckless habits. Neither is a perfect role model Set in the real 1976 Formula One season, it shows how racing worked at the time, from the dangerous cars to the weak safety rules. Teens who like motorsport or history will pick up plenty about the Lauda and Hunt rivalry

Story (may spoil tone)

In the 1970s, a rivalry propels race car drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt to fame and glory — until a horrible accident threatens to end it all.
