Armed robberies and a hostage's fear give The Town its tension, with a long firefight at the end. Strong swearing is nearly constant, and drugs, addiction and sex scenes are part of the neighbourhood story. We would keep it for 17 and up, especially with the criminals' skill made to look appealing.
Uplifting themes
Loyalty, a wish to leave a bad life, and the cost of crime sit at the centre. It is built on a lot of violence, so the message is mixed The lead tries to be a better man, but he and his friends are armed criminals who hurt real people. Their loyalty to each other is the main thing that looks admirable A look at how crime can pass down through families in a single Boston neighbourhood. Older teens could talk about that, but it is a thriller first and not a lesson plan
Story (may spoil tone)
A proficient group of thieves rob a bank and hold the manager hostage. Things begin to get complicated when one of the crew members falls in love with her.
