Why our age differs

Official is M. We say 13+ because the swearing and sex talk are frequent, though the bedroom scenes are brief and the tone stays warm

Our take

Friends keep meeting at weddings, and one funeral, while Charles tries to work out what he wants from love. Four Weddings and a Funeral is warm and funny, but the opening swearing is heavy and there is plenty of adult sex talk and a couple of bedroom scenes. The funeral brings a genuinely sad pause. We would watch from 13.

Uplifting themes

Shows that love can be messy and that being honest about how you feel matters. Friends turn up for each other at the happiest and saddest times The group of friends are loyal, funny, and supportive, including a close gay couple. Some behave badly in love, and the lead is slow to commit Offers a light look at British wedding customs, manners, and class in the early 1990s, with plenty of period charm and a few funny lessons in etiquette

Story (may spoil tone)

Over the course of five social occasions, a committed bachelor must consider the notion that he may have discovered love.

A sudden death brings the friends together for a funeral, with a heartfelt eulogy and clear sadness. It is the emotional heart of the film, and the mood stays warm even in grief
