Our take

Naomi is alone on a yacht when traffickers force her to dive for their cocaine in shark-filled water. Deep Fear stays tense between attacks because the armed men are as frightening as the sharks. There is strong swearing and some blood. We would wait until 15.

Uplifting themes

Naomi's will to survive pushes back against men who treat her as disposable. The story is thin on uplift beyond self-preservation Naomi uses calm and courage under extreme pressure, even when she is outmatched. She is not perfect, but she keeps thinking tactically

Story (may spoil tone)

A solo trip aboard a yacht takes a terrifying turn when a woman encounters three drug traffickers clinging to the shattered remains of a boat. They soon force her to dive into shark-infested waters to retrieve kilos of cocaine from the sunken wreck.

Naomi must free-dive deep without proper backup while bullied by armed men. The film shows risky diving and boat handling that kids should not copy

Talk after watching

  • Naomi must decide when to obey criminals and when to fight back on an isolated boat. What would you risk to protect yourself when no one can hear you?
  • Sharks circle the dives while the men care more about the drugs than her life. How does greed make the danger worse for everyone?
