Why our age differs

Official is PG. We say 8+ because the hospital and funeral beats are real enough that younger kids may want you beside them, even though the rest plays like a family drama

Our take

A family leaves Australia and tries to make a new start in the United States after losing their financial footing. Unsung Hero keeps a hopeful, faith-based tone, while money worries, illness and grief give the children plenty to carry. We would start around 8 and talk through the sad parts if needed.

Uplifting themes

Perseverance, forgiveness, and showing up for family sit at the center of the story. It also values humility when success turns into pride Helen leads with patience and faith while David learns to listen again. The children support each other even when they disagree

Story (may spoil tone)

When David Smallbone's successful music company collapses, he moves his family from Australia to the United States in search of a brighter future. With nothing more than their six children, their suitcases, and their love of music, David and his pregnant wife Helen set out to rebuild their lives from the ground up. Based on a remarkable true story, a mum's faith stands against all odds; and inspires her husband and children to hold onto theirs.

A few lines use hell in an emotional or jokey way during family arguments. There is no strong swearing and most dialogue is clean family talk

An adult death is discussed and mourned, and the family gathers around the loss with tears and prayer. Nothing graphic is shown, but the mood turns sad for a stretch in the third act
