Why our age differs

Official is M. We say 14+ because heroin smuggling, sexual wisecracks, and assault jokes in a crime list read older than typical M fare

Our take

Frank Drebin stumbles through a police case involving drugs and an assassination plot. The Naked Gun keeps the action absurd, but its sex jokes and other adult gags are part of the humour. We would start at 14.

Uplifting themes

Frank bumbles but still protects others and admits fault. Heroism is mostly accidental Frank is honest and brave in a clownish way. Most cops and crooks are stereotypes

Story (may spoil tone)

When the bumbling Lieutenant Frank Drebin investigates events following the shooting of his partner, he stumbles upon an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.

Talk after watching

  • The movie punishes villains through clumsy luck as much as skill. When does parody make violence feel harmless?
  • Frank tries to romance a colleague while the case explodes. Did any joke feel too crude for a spoof you expected to be cleaner?
