Why our age differs

Official is US R. We say 16+ because on-screen self-harm talk, a completed suicide, and bulimia need mature support, not a solo teen watch

Our take

Violet and Finch grow close while each is carrying pain that others do not fully see. All the Bright Places talks openly about suicide and self-harm, and a death later in the story makes those themes more than background. We would wait until 16 and be careful with a teen already struggling.

Uplifting themes

Asking for help, naming pain, and small wonders in Indiana matter. The ending is bittersweet, not tidy Violet grows braver; some adults listen late. Finch is loving but not a simple hero

Story (may spoil tone)

Two teens facing personal struggles form a powerful bond as they embark on a cathartic journey chronicling the wonders of Indiana.

Talk after watching

  • Finch uses adventures to cope when words fail. What are healthier ways to ask for help when everything feels too heavy?
  • Violet blames herself after Finch dies. How can friends support someone grieving a loss by suicide?
