Our take

The friendship at the centre of this undercover operation is deliberately uneasy. The case involves a murdered child, and the conversations can be more disturbing than the little violence we see. We would wait until MA 15+ for the subject and the oppressive mood.

Uplifting themes

Patience and careful listening matter inside the long operation. The film values method and endurance more than neat moral speeches Some officers show discipline and care for the victim's family waiting for answers. Many relationships still rest on lies required by the job

Story (may spoil tone)

Two strangers strike up a conversation on a long journey. However, neither is who they appear to be, each carry secrets that threaten to ruin them — and in the background, one of the nation's largest police operations is closing in.

Talk after watching

  • Trust builds between strangers who are not being honest. How do you decide when a new friendship feels safe?
  • Police use undercover friendship as a tool. Where should the line sit between catching a suspect and manipulating someone?
