Our take

A mother tries to rebuild after one loss and is then hit by another that changes the whole film. The child's abduction and death, her grief and her mental collapse are much heavier than the quiet pace suggests. We would wait until 16.

Uplifting themes

Small acts of care from a few neighbors still matter even when faith and forgiveness feel complicated. The film does not pretend healing is tidy A handful of people try to stay present for Shin-ae when others offer only slogans. Most authority figures fail her in ways worth talking about

Story (may spoil tone)

Shin-ae moves to her recently late husband’s hometown. Despite her efforts to settle in this unfamiliar and too-normal place, she finds that she can’t fit in. After a sudden tragedy, Shin-ae turns to Christianity to relieve her pain, but when even this is not permitted, she wages a war against God.

A child's abduction and death sit at the heart of the drama, and the mother's horror is shown without soft edges. Families with younger kids should treat this as adult territory

Loss of a husband and then a child shapes every choice Shin-ae makes. Mourning, anger, and the search for meaning never leave the frame

Talk after watching

  • Shin-ae looks for peace in faith and then feels betrayed by easy answers. How do you support someone whose grief does not follow a neat script?
  • Neighbors and church friends respond in very different ways. What helps, and what only adds pressure, when a family is shattered?
