Why our age differs

Official is PG. We say 8+ because murder talk and rough slapstick sit above the gentlest PG comedies, even when the tone stays silly

Our take

The Pink Panther is a broad Steve Martin comedy built on pratfalls, bad accents, and a poisoned-dart murder at a football stadium. Kids will see comic fights, chase chaos, and talk of murder without much blood. Mild language like hell and b-word pops up, plus a casino subplot and a brief affair mention. We land at 8 and up because the slapstick and crime plot suit older kids who already watch silly PG mysteries

Uplifting themes

Clumsy persistence and loyalty still help crack the case after endless public mistakes. The comedy rewards trying again when pride takes a hit Clouseau means well while making everything worse for a long stretch of the film. Allies show more patience and sense than the inspector does

Story (may spoil tone)

When the coach of the France football team is killed by a poisoned dart in the stadium at the end of a game, and his huge, expensive ring with the Pink Panther diamond disappears, the ambitious Chief Inspector Dreyfus assigns the worst police inspector – Jacques Clouseau – to the case.

A casino owner and gambling losses sit inside the diamond mystery as Clouseau blunders through the floor. Tables appear as set dressing, not a how-to

Talk after watching

  • Clouseau keeps making messes while trying to help. When does trying hard still need better judgment?
  • The case involves a stolen diamond and a murder. How do you tell a funny mystery from a scary one for your family?
