Why our age differs

Official is US TV-14. We say 13+ because the intimacy stays soft and the hard parts are emotional loneliness and family friction, not harsh teen-targeting intensity

Our take

Our Souls at Night is a gentle adult drama about two widowed neighbours who start sharing a bed for company and slowly grow closer. The tone is warm and conversational, with soft intimacy, light swearing, and the ache of old losses still sitting in the room. Grown children and gossip push against their new arrangement. We land at 13 and up because the romance and grief are written for mature teens who can sit with adult loneliness without needing big plot fireworks

Uplifting themes

Kindness, honesty, and choosing connection over loneliness sit at the centre. The film values late-life companionship without pretending gossip will stay quiet Addie and Louis keep checking in with each other and try to own their choices. Some relatives push harder than they listen

Story (may spoil tone)

Addie Moore and Louis Waters, a widow and widower, have lived next to each other for years. The pair have almost no relationship, but that all changes when Addie tries to make a connection with her neighbour.

Talk after watching

  • Addie and Louis choose honesty with each other even when neighbours talk. When is privacy more important than other people's opinions?
  • Grief still shapes both of their days. How would you support someone who wants company without pushing them to move on?
