Our take

Babo: The Haftbefehl Story is an interview-led music documentary about a German rap icon looking back on street life and fame. Strong language is constant in lyrics and chat, and he talks openly about selling drugs, cocaine, teen use, and overdose. Depression, therapy, gambling in the family, and a suicide threat come up without becoming a tutorial. The frank drug history and constant swearing make this an adult music documentary.

Uplifting themes

Honesty about pain and the wish to grow beyond the old image push through the bravado. The film still glamorizes hustle at times while asking for change Family and collaborators who stick around model loyalty through messy years. Haftbefehl is candid about harm, not a clean mentor figure for kids

Story (may spoil tone)

Personal interviews with Haftbefehl and those closest to him reveal the story behind the German rap icon as he takes a brutally honest look at his life.

Depression, therapists, and temper loss after low periods get real airtime in interviews and lyrics. Mental health is treated as part of survival, not a punchline

Friends lost to overdose and hard living leave a sober aftertaste beside the chart success. Mourning sits quietly next to the rise-to-fame arc

Talk after watching

  • Haftbefehl links early drug dealing to later success and regret. How do you talk about past mistakes without glamourising them?
  • Depression and therapy appear beside tough-guy rap imagery. What helps a person ask for support in a culture that prizes toughness?
