Why our age differs

Official is US TV-MA. We say 16+ because sustained gun violence, frequent strong language, and a child endangered in a crime world need older teens

Our take

AKA is a tense French crime thriller with shootouts, explosions and gang intimidation. The English subtitles carry frequent strong language, and a child is pulled into adult danger. There is also a sex scene with some nudity. We put it at 16+ for the violence, language, sexual content and danger to a child.

Uplifting themes

Protecting a child and questioning blind loyalty peek through the gun smoke. The film still lives in a cynical crime world The agent shows care for the boy when it costs him cover and safety. Most adults around them still model power, fear, or compromise instead

Story (may spoil tone)

A steely special ops agent finds his morality put to the test when he infiltrates a crime syndicate and unexpectedly bonds with the boss' young son.

Talk after watching

  • The agent starts caring for the boss's son while still lying about who he is. Can a fake friendship still create a real duty to protect someone?
  • Loyalty to a job collides with loyalty to a child. When should personal morals override orders from above?
