Why our age differs

Official is US TV-MA. We say 16+ because constant strong language and detailed sexual comedy sit firmly in adult stand-up territory

Our take

Amy Schumer: Growing is a one-hour stand-up special full of blunt jokes about sex, pregnancy, marriage, and bodily stuff. Strong language is constant, especially the f-word, and sexual talk runs from bathroom hookups to porn punchlines. She also jokes about harassment and briefly about taking her own life in a lingerie bit. We land at 16 and up because the adult sexual comedy and frequent swearing are built for grown audiences, not curious tweens

Uplifting themes

Growing into marriage and parenthood is framed as messy, loving work. Honesty about bodies and relationships is the soft centre under the jokes Amy models frank talk about adult life, marriage, and pregnancy without pretending to be polished. The special is comedy first and mentoring second

Story (may spoil tone)

Amy Schumer's live stand-up set performed in Chicago where she jokes about marriage, pregnancy and personal growth.

The f-word flies constantly, with the s-word, b-word, ass, and hell packed into nearly every bit. This is wall-to-wall stand-up swearing

Sex during pregnancy, lingerie, bathroom encounters, and porn search jokes are major punchlines. The talk is explicit even though nothing is shown on stage

Wine-while-pregnant jokes, weed name-drops, and a cocaine gag land as throwaways. Substances flavour the comedy rather than drive a plot

One lingerie joke briefly mentions taking her own life at home while trying something on. It is a dark aside for a laugh, not a serious scene about suicide

Amy talks about sexual harassment as a shared women's experience. The topic is named clearly, without a graphic assault scene

A quick racism joke setup appears in a bit about awkward social moments and bad timing. Discrimination is named in passing, not explored as the special's theme

Pregnancy body scrutiny and public comments about her bump get roasted. The jokes push back at judgment more than they promote thinness

Talk after watching

  • Amy jokes about pressure to look perfect while pregnant. How do celebrity bodies change the way people talk about real pregnancies?
  • She mixes funny stories with talk about harassment. When does a joke help name a problem, and when does it shrug it off?
