Why our age differs

Official is MA 15+. We say 17+ because ritual horror, gore, and a nasty media twist push past a lighter mature watch

Our take

This Netflix horror traps adults in a forest house with rifles, sacrifice talk, and bloody set pieces. Strong swearing is constant under stress, including sexual insults, and drinking plus a cocaine mention sit in the dialogue. There is brief rear nudity, while the graphic torture and bloody deaths dominate the film. We land at 17 and up because strong violence, gore, and sustained dread match a restricted teen horror watch

Uplifting themes

A faint warning about greed for clicks and viral pain peeks through the horror. Kindness is scarce once the group starts turning on itself A couple of characters try to protect others for a beat when panic hits. Most choices under pressure stay selfish or cruel

Story (may spoil tone)

Five people travelling by camper crash into a tree. When they recover, the road they were driving on has been replaced by an impenetrable forest and a wooden house.

There is some sexual talk and a brief view of a man's bare buttocks in a video clip. Sex and nudity are secondary to the violence

Beer, drunk driving before the crash, and a cocaine comparison show up in arguments. Substances colour the group's mess rather than teach use

Haunting music, nightmare talk, and a house that feels like a trap keep dread high for most of the film. Jump beats and grotesque imagery sit squarely in horror territory

Characters hurl gendered insults and slut-shame when fear turns nasty. The cruelty is interpersonal and ugly, though it is not the whole plot

The violence includes eyes being gouged, ears and tongues cut, throats slit and a broken leg shown in bloody detail. This is sustained, graphic gore rather than mostly talk about injuries

Talk after watching

  • Characters keep filming and posting even when people are in danger. How does chasing an audience change what people are willing to do?
  • Panic turns the group against each other. What would you want a friend to do first if a trip went badly wrong?
