Our take

A 3 Minute Hug is a brief Netflix documentary about relatives divided by the El Paso-Juarez border who meet for a timed embrace. Children and adults cry, cling, and say goodbye again when the minutes end. There is no violence or strong language to filter, but the separation is emotionally heavy. We land at 10 and up because family split and child longing need a parent nearby to talk through the tears

Uplifting themes

Love, dignity, and the will to stay connected across a hard border come through without speeches. The short hug itself becomes an act of care Parents and organisers treat the reunion with tenderness and respect. Adults model showing up for family even when the rules are harsh The short film makes border separation concrete through faces and a timer rather than charts. Families can use it to talk about migration and belonging in plain terms

Story (may spoil tone)

As daylight breaks between the border cities of El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico, undocumented migrants and their relatives, divided by a wall, prepare to participate in an activist event. For three minutes, they’ll embrace in no man’s land for the briefest and sweetest of reunions.

Talk after watching

  • Families get only three minutes together. How would that time limit feel if someone you love lived on the other side of a wall?
  • The film shows love continuing across a border. What helps people stay close when they cannot live in the same place?
