Official Rating M ClearAge 16+

Why our age differs

Official is M. We say 16+ because sex talk, drinking, and adult romantic comedy tone are aimed squarely at older teens

Our take

Sloane and Jackson agree to be each other's plus-ones through every holiday, then the pretend dating gets messy and sexual. There are frequent f-words, blunt talk about sex and porn, wine-fuelled parties, and smoking or weed jokes among adults. The romance is warm, but the humour stays crude rather than sweet-only. We land at 16 and up because the language and frank sexual banter sit well above a mild date-night comedy

Uplifting themes

Honesty about loneliness and choosing real connection over performative dating come through by the end. The path there is messy and joke-heavy Sloane and Jackson learn to say what they want instead of only managing family optics. Supporting friends help, even when advice is imperfect

Story (may spoil tone)

Fed up with being single on holidays, two strangers agree to be each other's platonic plus-ones all year long, only to catch real feelings along the way.

Lots of strong swearing, mostly the f-word, plus the s-word and crude insults at parties and family chaos. It starts early and keeps pace with the holiday gags

Sex is discussed plainly, including past hookups, porn jokes, and a nude-model story. Kissing and sexual chemistry are central; the film stays comic rather than graphic for long

Wine, vodka, drunk party scenes, cigarettes, and weed talk show up across the year of holidays. Intoxication is played for laughs more than as a warning

Talk after watching

  • They start as "just friends" for holidays and feelings change. How do you tell when a casual arrangement needs an honest talk?
  • Family gatherings keep pushing them about relationships. When has pressure from relatives made a holiday harder for you?
