Retired MMA champion Patton James, now a struggling fisherman, returns to the cage when his brother lands in debt and danger. Russell Crowe co-stars as his old trainer in this working-class sports drama. The MA 15+ rating covers language throughout, bloody fight injuries and sexual material including topless dancers in a club scene. Realistic MMA violence includes choke holds, eye gouging and a fatal unsanctioned fight, plus roughly five dozen f-words and storylines about prison, revenge and family pressure. A better fit for older teens who already watch combat-sports movies.
Uplifting themes

Talk after watching
- Patton promised his wife he was done fighting — what pushes someone to break that promise for family?
- The film shows MMA as physically punishing with real injury risk. How is that different from movie superhero fights?
