Our take

This is not a kids Robin cartoon. You pick some of what happens. A teenage sidekick is beaten and left in extreme danger. Some paths show a young person dying. There is also gunplay and the s-word. Watch with a parent at 16. It is a hard, short film about loss, not a puzzle to copy

Uplifting themes

Care for a hurt kid sits next to rage. The film asks what mercy costs Batman wants to protect the boy. The choices around that are ugly, not neat

Story (may spoil tone)

Tragedy strikes the Batman's life again when Robin Jason Todd tracks down his birth mother only to run afoul of the Joker. An adaptation of the 1988 comic book storyline of the same name.
