This fourth film in the series trades arena action for the start of a full rebellion, and the mood is dark and anxious. There is plenty of threat, bombing, and talk of killing, plus distressing footage of a captured friend, though the violence is largely bloodless. A beloved district is destroyed and grief runs through it. Language is very mild and romance stays to a kiss. It fits most teens around 13 and up.
Uplifting themes
The film is about standing up to a cruel regime and refusing to let fear win. It also weighs the real cost of war and propaganda on both sides. There is courage and conscience to talk about The lead keeps choosing to protect people even when she is exhausted and used, and allies show loyalty and sacrifice. A few adults guide her well. She is a thoughtful, brave figure for teens The story offers a clear-eyed look at propaganda, media spin, and how both sides stage images to win hearts. It can spark good talk about what we see on screens. The ideas sit lightly on top of the drama
Story (may spoil tone)
After surviving the Quarter Quell, Katniss finds herself in the hidden stronghold of District 13, where the rebellion against the Capitol is gaining momentum. Struggling with the weight of becoming the symbol of resistance, she must navigate fragile alliances while trying to protect those she loves. As propaganda battles rage and Panem moves closer to full-scale war, Katniss is forced to confront the true cost of revolution.

War drives this chapter, with bombings, districts burned, wounded gunned down, and constant talk of killing. Most of it is shown at a distance or implied, so blood is limited. The scale of the threat is still heavy

Coarse language is very light, with only the odd mild word in tense moments. Nothing stands out as strong. Swearing is a background detail here

Romance stays gentle, mostly a kiss and some longing between the leads. There is nothing explicit. The focus is firmly on the war, not romance

A key character is drying out from heavy drinking, and a medical sedative features in a troubling scene. It is tied to trauma, not a party. Nothing is shown as fun

The tone is grim and tense throughout, from ruined towns and body-strewn rubble to broadcasts of a tortured, hollow-eyed friend. Nightmares and the sense of a cruel enemy add to the unease. It can weigh on younger viewers

Teenagers are the centre of the danger, hunted, bombed, and used as pawns by both sides. A captured young man is clearly broken by his treatment. Their peril is sustained, even without graphic harm

Bodies, bones, and the aftermath of bombings appear, along with a little blood from an injured captive. Guns are everywhere but wounds are rarely dwelt on. The horror is in the scale, not the detail

Trauma runs through the story, with nightmares, panic, and a hero worn down by what she has seen. A friend returns visibly damaged by captivity. It is handled seriously

The destruction of a home district brings mass loss and mourning, and characters carry fresh grief. The sadness is real but not dwelt on in gory detail. It colours the whole film

- Both sides use film and TV to win people over. How do you tell real footage from spin?
- Katniss is pushed to be a symbol for others. When is it fair to ask that of one person?
