Our take

Charlie's Angels is a playful action film full of martial-arts fights, gadget stunts, and flirtatious humour. The fighting is constant but bloodless and exaggerated. The leads use sex appeal as part of their disguises, while language is mostly mild. Teens around 13 and up who enjoy comic action should be comfortable with it.

Uplifting themes

Loyalty, teamwork and friendship between the three leads power the story, and they look out for each other through every scrape. It is light, but the sisterhood and never-give-up streak give families something upbeat to point to The Angels are smart, capable and brave, though they also lie, manipulate and use seduction to win. Kids see confident women who solve problems, with a few ethics worth chatting about

Kung-fu brawls, gun standoffs, car chases and explosions run through the whole film, along with a kidnapping and open talk of killing. It is staged as slick, comic action, so the fights stay bloodless even when things get loud

There is scattered name-calling including the b-word, a stray s-word, and milder hell and damn. A party song also repeats a crude b-word lyric, so swear-sensitive homes will notice it

Flirting, suggestive dancing, bedroom innuendo, and revealing outfits are recurring parts of the Angels' act. There is no sex or explicit nudity

A kidnapping subplot and a few high-speed set-pieces bring mild menace, but the jokey tone keeps real dread low. Younger viewers may feel the loud chases and threats more than older kids will

Guns are drawn often and at least one character is killed, though wounds and bodies are kept well off the detailed end. Weapons are everywhere, but the camera does not linger on injury

Talk after watching

  • The Angels often rely on disguises and flirting to get what they want. How do you feel about using charm that way?
  • The villain's plan is about tracking people and erasing privacy. What does your family think about who can find you online?
