Our take

An M action comedy about former CIA spies pulled back into danger with their kids nearby. Gunfights, hand-to-hand combat, frequent profanity including f-word bursts and a few kissing scenes. The tone stays playful, though weapons, stabbings and abduction talk appear throughout. Works for teens who enjoy spy comedies.

Uplifting themes

Family teamwork and honesty matter once the secret life is out Parents protect their kids while trying to keep them shielded from violence

Story (may spoil tone)

Fifteen years after vanishing from the CIA to start a family, elite spies Matt and Emily jump back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown.

Talk after watching

  • Matt and Emily hide their past from their kids. When is secrecy about work justified in a family?
  • Spy movies mix jokes with danger. How can you tell when action is meant to be funny?
