Kill Bill: Vol. 1 is a stylised revenge thriller with extreme violence. Sword fights leave severed limbs and exaggerated sprays of blood, strong language is frequent, and a hospital storyline involves the implied sexual assault of an unconscious woman. Its comic-book style creates some distance, but it does not make the content mild. This is an adults-only watch.
Uplifting themes
This is a revenge tale through and through, so there is little uplift beyond sheer determination. Any message about resolve comes wrapped in heavy bloodshed Nobody here is a role model. The lead is driven and capable but is on a killing spree, and the people around her are assassins too
Story (may spoil tone)
An assassin is shot by her ruthless employer, Bill, and other members of their assassination circle – but she lives to plot her vengeance.

Strong language is frequent, with the f-word and other harsh terms thrown out in anger and threat. It comes thick during the tense, violent scenes. There is a steady stream of it, well beyond the odd slip

Dismemberment, decapitation and geysers of blood run throughout, alongside countless blades and firearms. One long stretch switches to black and white to dial back the gore, which tells you how graphic it is. Bodies pile up fast

Sword play, knife throwing and hand-to-hand fighting fill the film and are made to look cool and skilful. The weapons focus is worth noting for younger viewers, though the context is pure fantasy

Grief and loss drive the whole revenge story, and a funeral and talk of the dead feature early. The sadness is real but stays under the surface of the action
