Why our age differs

Official is G. We say 8+ because a loud, destructive finale and some menacing moments land better once kids are a little older

Our take

Sing is an upbeat musical comedy about trying, failing, and finding the nerve to try again. Most of its action is gentle slapstick, but a theatre collapse and two threatening gangster bears bring a few tense moments. There is light flirting, very mild language, and brief drug references in dialogue and songs. The teamwork and perseverance give families plenty to enjoy. Most school-age children should be comfortable with it.

Uplifting themes

A warm push to chase your dream and keep going after you fail. Characters practise, support each other, and find the courage to perform. Resilience is the real heart of it Buster never quits despite setback after setback, Rosita juggles family and ambition, and Johnny stands up for his own path. Plenty of grit and teamwork to point to

Story (may spoil tone)

A koala named Buster recruits his best friend to help him drum up business for his theater by hosting a singing competition.

Light romance only. Mike the mouse is a smooth flirt with his girlfriend, a few songs lean romantic, and Gunter the pig throws some cheeky dance moves. Nothing beyond that

Some characters are cocky or dismissive, and Buster brushes off doubters. The put-downs are mild and the film rewards kindness and second chances

Money worries and family stress sit under the comedy. Rosita feels unseen at home, Johnny's dad lands in trouble, and a passing line jokes about a funeral. It stays gentle
