Why our age differs

Official is M. We land at M because of strong language, frank sex talk, and a nude body-double sex-scene subplot, plus a grieving family thread. It stays cosy in tone, but the adult material is the driver.

Our take

This is a British ensemble romantic comedy that hops between many couples in the weeks before Christmas. The warmth is real, but so is the grown-up content: scattered strong language, a lot of frank sex talk, and a side plot built around stand-ins who act out film sex scenes in the nude. One thread follows a boy and his stepdad grieving the mum who recently died, which gives the comedy a tender, sad edge. There is almost no violence, and the overall feel stays cosy. We land at M and up for the sex talk, the nudity, and the language.

Uplifting themes

Under the jokes, the film keeps returning to honesty, second chances and showing up for the people you love. Kindness and reconciliation get the last word in most of the threads The adults are a mixed bag, with warm, loyal choices sitting next to an affair and some selfish moves. There is plenty to admire and a few decisions worth questioning together

Story (may spoil tone)

Eight very different couples deal with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London.

Strong language turns up across the stories, including several uses of the f-word and s-word plus milder bits like hell, damn and crap. It comes in bursts, not a constant stream, but swear-sensitive homes will clock it

Sex is a running topic: frank jokes, talk of sleeping around, and a gentle subplot where two body doubles chat while posing nude for film sex scenes. There is brief nudity and a line about watching porn, though nothing is graphic

Grown-ups drink at parties and offices through the season, and a washed-up rocker jokes about his past heroin use. A couple of characters talk about getting drunk, but substance use stays background colour

One storyline opens at a funeral and follows a young boy and his stepfather finding their feet after the mother's death. It is handled softly, but the sadness is woven right through the lighter romance
