View all categoriesOur take
Minority Report is a grim science-fiction thriller built around murder, surveillance, and a hero pursued through his own city. Chases and fights are strong, an eye-surgery scene is unsettling, and the lead uses an illegal drug. There is some strong language and a brief spoken reference to attempted assault. We put it at around M and up, with a parent nearby for teens troubled by its darker ideas and images.
Uplifting themes
The story wrestles with free will, second chances and whether people should be punished for what they might do, and the hero fights to prove the system wrong. It rewards questioning authority and owning your choices The lead is brave and determined but also grieving, addicted and willing to bend the rules, so he is a flawed guide at best. His push for the truth is the admirable part
Story (may spoil tone)
John Anderton is a top 'Precrime' cop in the late-21st century, when technology can predict crimes before they're committed. But Anderton becomes the quarry when another investigator targets him for a murder charge.

There are corpses, surgical scenes, real-looking guns and a stomach-turning gag involving loose eyeballs and spoiled food. Wounds are not dwelt on, but a few moments are deliberately gross

The loss of a child sits at the emotional core, and the parents' grief, guilt and broken marriage run all the way through. It is sad and heavy, and the film treats it with real weight

- The hero turns to drugs to cope with a terrible loss. What are healthier ways people can deal with grief?
