Idiocracy is a crude satire about a future built on ignorance and spectacle. Strong swearing, homophobic and ableist slurs, sex and porn jokes, and threats from a pimp run through the comedy. Guns, explosions, and a death-match show add more adult content. ClearAge's editorial age is 13+, while the displayed official rating is MA15+; follow the official restriction where it applies.
Uplifting themes
Reading, watering crops, and not worshipping a brand are quietly treated as sanity. The joke is how rare that is. You can pull a conversation about thinking for yourself out of the sludge Joe is average and still tries to tell the truth about plants and water. Rita wants out of a bad setup. They are not saints, and they are the closest thing the film has to a spine There is a plain science gag underneath: plants need water, marketing is not agronomy. Use it to talk about ads and anti-intellectual swagger. It is still a crude comedy, not a classroom film
Story (may spoil tone)
To test its top-secret Human Hibernation Project, the Pentagon picks the most average European-Americans it can find - an Army private and a prostitute - and sends them to the year 2505 after a series of freak events. But when they arrive, they find a civilization so dumbed-down that they're the smartest people around.

Machine-gun fire, car explosions, and a monster-truck duel to the death sit inside the jokes. People talk about kills and about shooting the hero. It is cartoon-loud more than torture, but the crowd is cheering for harm

Strong swearing runs throughout, alongside homophobic and ableist slurs. The insults are part of the film's satire but can still sting

People talk about having sex, a porn star is president, and one lead is introduced as a former prostitute. The gags are crude and repeated. You get sexual noise more than a long explicit scene, and that is still plenty

Beer is ordered with a cheer, and the future drinks a sports product like water. Nobody is teaching drug use. It is slob comedy drinking in a world that has forgotten plants

A death-match show and a crowd that wants the hero hurt keep a nasty edge under the laughs. The future looks filthy and broken. Sensitive teens may feel the contempt more than any jump scare

A former sex worker is threatened and controlled by a pimp. The film plays much of this for comedy, but the coercion is worth flagging

Huge guns, secret-service hardware, and explosions show up in chases and the arena. Blood is not the hobby. Weapons are loud props in a dumb action gag

An opening voiceover notes that a man died of a heart attack, played for a cheap contrast gag. It is a blink. Families who skip that beat will not miss a story pillar

Talk after watching
- The future treats smart as a insult. Where do you see people bragging about not reading or not caring?
- Joe tries to fix crops with a simple idea and almost gets killed for it. Why is changing a popular habit so hard?
