Why our age differs

Official is US NR. We say 14+ because suicide talk is a running gag and people get drunk on screen, which sits heavier than a mild romance

Our take

Romanchakam is a Telugu romance comedy about a man who becomes fixated on a social-media rejection. Friends drink and smoke, there is kissing and a brief undressing gag, and arguments bring mild swearing. More concerning, suicidal thoughts and a rumoured death are repeatedly used for panic and humour. We put it at around 14 and up, with a parent nearby for the suicide jokes and reckless behaviour.

Uplifting themes

Friends show up when the romance goes sideways, even if their help is clumsy. The film still rewards chasing someone who already said stop. Use that gap for a talk about listening The lead is charming and loyal to his crew, which kids may like. He also ignores a block and treats a rumour of suicide as content. Do not copy his idea of romance

Story (may spoil tone)

An entrepreneur hoping to make money off romance ends up falling in love. But when she blocks him on social media, he tries to reignite their spark.

Hell and damn fly around in arguments, and the s-word appears at least once. It is the usual rom-com snap, not a wall of swearing. Younger ears will still catch it in a quiet room

There is kissing, flirting, and a hostel joke about sharing a bed and underwear. Late in the film someone is told to undress, played as a chaotic gag. Nothing turns into an explicit sex scene

Beer is ordered, shared, and spilled, and friends get drunk enough that someone talks about quitting. Cigarettes come up in a what-about-you spat. It is social drinking that tips into a messy night, not a drug plot

Friends panic when a woman goes missing, and later they talk about grabbing her into a car like a movie kidnapping. It is played for chaos, not horror. Sensitive kids may still find the missing-person scare unkind

A man mentions suicidal thoughts under pressure, while friends turn a woman's disappearance and a false note into a suicide rumour. The film uses the subject for both worry and jokes

Friends drive after drinking and talk about putting a woman in a car against her will. The comic tone does not make either behaviour safe

Work pressure and low mood are mentioned, including thoughts of suicide. The film moves quickly back to comedy rather than exploring support or recovery

Talk after watching

  • Friends treat a rumour of suicide as a puzzle and a joke. When does that kind of talk stop being funny?
  • He keeps chasing her after she blocks him. Where is the line between trying again and not listening?
