Our take

How It Ends is a grim road thriller about a journey through a society coming apart. Robberies, shootings, blood, and people killing to survive keep the danger close, while blackouts and rumours add to the fear. The f-word is frequent, and drinking is mentioned in backstory. We put it at around 16 and up, with a parent nearby for the violence and collapse anxiety.

Uplifting themes

Getting home to family is the north star when everything else breaks. Small acts of help still matter on the road. The film is bleak, so keep that hope talk honest The lead keeps moving toward the people he loves even when quitting would be easier. He is scared and imperfect. Persistence is the trait worth naming

Story (may spoil tone)

A desperate father tries to return home to his pregnant wife after a mysterious apocalyptic event turns everything to chaos.

Guns get loaded on camera, robberies turn deadly, and characters admit killing to stay alive. Blood on faces and road fights keep the trip ugly. It is crisis violence, not a stylised war epic

The f-word pours out in panic and arguments, including a rapid string of it early on. The s-word and a-word show up too. Adult swearing is part of the collapse mood

People talk about being drunk together and letting whiskey do the talking in the past. It is backstory colour on the road. Not a party film

Planes, blackouts, and a country coming apart make ordinary travel feel unsafe. Nuclear-bomb rumours add another layer of dread. Sensitive viewers may feel the end-of-normal anxiety more than any single scare

Characters handle firearms, and blood is visible after fights. Deaths occur, but the camera does not linger on detailed wounds
