Our take

Tanu Weds Manu: Returns follows a marriage in trouble, renewed attraction, and mistaken identity. Drinking, threats during arguments, affairs, and a kiss while someone sleeps complicate the comedy. We put it at around 15 and up, with a parent nearby for the relationship and drinking themes.

Uplifting themes

Second chances and honest feelings peek through the chaos. Loyalty to family is praised even when people mess up. The comedy often undercuts the lesson Manu stays softer than the storm around him. Tanu and others are fun but unreliable. Treat them as flawed adults, not teen role models Little teaching value beyond seeing how Indian family comedy handles marriage stress. Watch for culture and humor, not homework

Story (may spoil tone)

After Tanu and Manu's marriage breaks apart, the latter finds himself smitten by Datto, a lookalike of his ex-wife. But the estranged couple's feelings begin to spark again.

Slapstick brawls mix with talk of stabbing, shooting, and killing during feuds. A woman beats a man in one scene played partly for laughs. The tone is comic, but the words can still sound harsh

Subs stay fairly mild for a rowdy Hindi comedy. Shouting matches and insults carry the heat more than constant profanity. English dialogue bits stay light

Flirting in pubs, extra-marital affair talk, and kisses run through the plot. Underwear jokes and sleeping-kiss confusion add awkward adult humor. No prolonged nude scenes showed up in subs

Pub drinking, repeated drunk jokes, and hangovers are played for comedy. A line claims someone gave alcohol to children to quiet them, played as outrageous gossip. That last beat is worth a clear parent chat

Kidnapping gets mentioned in a tense story beat. Dead-body jokes are metaphorical, not horror. Mood stays comic-dramatic rather than scary

Characters say dead body as a figure of speech during arguments. No graphic corpses or wound focus. Weapons are threats more than shown harm

Divorce grief and jealousy drive a lot of scenes. Characters swing from manic fun to hurt feelings. The film treats pain as plot fuel as much as empathy

A father's death and sudden grieving come up in family talk. It passes through quickly amid jokes. Still, loss sits under the reunion story

Talk after watching

  • Datto looks like Tanu but acts differently. How do we treat people as individuals, not copies?
  • The film laughs about heavy drinking. Where is the line between comedy and normalizing harm?
