Why our age differs

Official is R 18+ 18+. We say 17+ because the horror climax is brutal, but the overall cut can sit with older teens who already handle strong horror

Our take

Carrie follows a girl bullied at school and shamed at home before a prom prank turns deadly. Pig blood, harsh language, religious abuse, and multiple deaths make the final stretch especially intense. We put it at around 17 and up on the ClearAge guide; the displayed official classification is R 18+ 18+.

Uplifting themes

A few classmates show guilt too late. The film clearly sides with Carrie, yet the payoff is tragedy, not comfort Adults fail Carrie repeatedly. Teens who stand up early are scarce, which is part of the warning Useful for talking about bullying and bystanders if you debrief after, but it is horror, not a classroom clip

Story (may spoil tone)

Withdrawn and sensitive teenager Carrie White faces bullying from her classmates and abuse from her fanatically pious mother. When she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers, things take a dark and violent turn.

Pig blood, stabbings, and burning dominate the climax. Weapons are mostly Carrie's power and improvised harm, with vivid blood imagery

Carrie's isolation, panic, and break with reality are the spine of the story. The distress is the point, not a tidy lesson on getting help

  • Who could have stepped in before the prom prank, and what stops bystanders in real life?
  • How do Carrie's mother's words about sin affect how we read Carrie's anger?
