Why our age differs

Official is MA 15+. We say 13+ because the alien action is intense in spots, but the cut is less harsh than many MA war or crime titles

Our take

Extinction follows a factory worker whose invasion nightmares start to come true. Firefights, explosions, and visions involving children make the second half tense, while the late twist asks viewers to rethink who is human. The swearing is milder than in many action films. We put it at around 13 and up for the invasion violence and frightening dreams.

Uplifting themes

Protecting family and trusting your instincts get a nod. Much of the runtime is survival violence first The dad tries to shield his wife and kids once bullets fly. He is still a man with a gun in a collapse scenario, not a gentle mentor You could mention how fear spreads in a crisis, but the film is escapist sci-fi, not a documentary

Story (may spoil tone)

A chief mechanic at a factory, haunted by apocalyptic nightmares, becomes a hero when Earth is invaded by a mysterious army bent on destruction.

Apocalyptic nightmares, sudden attacks, and a twist that rewrites who is safe keep dread high. Sensitive viewers may lose sleep after the home-invasion energy

Slurs against synthetic people show up once the twist lands. It is plot-driven othering rather than a long hate story

Heroes improvise weapons and charge into crossfire. The film rewards bravery, so talk about when fighting back is movie logic only

The lead is treated as unstable because of his nightmares until events prove him right. That gaslighting thread can hit teens who worry about being believed

Loss of parents and fear of losing children echo through the war beats. Grief is more spoken than ceremonially explored
