Our take

The seven riders bring style and humour to a threatened town, but the early killing and long final battle leave plenty of bodies. Blood is limited for a western with this much gunfire. We would start at 14, when a teen can handle the sustained shooting as well as the grief behind the fight.

Uplifting themes

Strangers risk their lives to protect people who cannot defend themselves. Courage, loyalty, and standing up to bullies are the film's backbone. The heroes also kill freely A multi-ethnic team respects and relies on one another. Leaders show courage and willingness to sacrifice. They are also hired guns who use violence first A loose, Hollywood version of the Old West with mining-town greed and a tough local economy. It is an action movie and not a history lesson for school

Story (may spoil tone)

Looking to mine for gold, greedy industrialist Bartholomew Bogue seizes control of the Old West town of Rose Creek. With their lives in jeopardy, Emma Cullen and other desperate residents turn to bounty hunter Sam Chisolm for help. Chisolm recruits an eclectic group of gunslingers to take on Bogue and his ruthless henchmen. With a deadly showdown on the horizon, the seven mercenaries soon find themselves fighting for more than just money once the bullets start to fly.

  • The seven heroes come from different backgrounds and agree to defend strangers. What made them each say yes?
