The battles in 300 are stylised, but the bloodshed is constant: severed limbs, beheadings and bodies across the field. Monsters and a macho view of strength add to the tone, while nudity and sexual coercion bring a different kind of discomfort. We would wait until 16.
Uplifting themes
Courage, sacrifice, and loyalty to friends and homeland are praised. The film also celebrates war and treats strength as the only worthy trait The king is brave and loyal but also kills without hesitation, and the story tells you only the fighters matter. Few characters show a gentler way to solve things It is a very loose and stylised nod to a real ancient battle. It can start a conversation about the history, but it will not teach it accurately, and many details are invented for the comic-book look
Story (may spoil tone)
A story very loosely based the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians.

Talk after watching
- The film makes war look glorious and heroic. What did it leave out, and how might real soldiers and families have felt?
- Strength and weakness are treated very harshly here. Who gets left out, and is that fair?
