View all categoriesOur take
British agent Andy Osnard uses a local tailor, Harry, to invent intelligence that could drag the US into war over the canal. Affairs, blackmail, and gangster politics fill the background, and several scenes are sexually frank. Language is very strong throughout, including the f-word and crude insults in almost every meeting. Cocaine and heavy drinking are part of the world the characters describe, not a lesson film. We land at 16 and up because the tone is adult satire with sexual talk and language that never really lets up
Uplifting themes
The film warns that lies in intelligence can cost lives, even when the tone stays darkly funny. Harry's guilt late on counts for something Almost everyone manipulates someone else. Harry's late remorse is the closest thing to a moral anchor, and it arrives after a lot of damage
Story (may spoil tone)
A British spy is banished to Panama after having an affair with an ambassador's mistress. Once there he makes connection with a local tailor with a nefarious past and connections to all of the top political and gangster figures in Panama. The tailor also has a wife, who works for the Panamanian president and a huge debt. The mission is to learn what the President intends to do with the Canal.

Talk after watching
- Harry's fabrications spiral into real harm. Where do you see people in the story confuse a good story with the truth?
- Louisa and Harry both trade on charm and secrets. What would trust look like in a relationship built on that kind of power?
