Our take

The smart-home assistant knows too much about the family and begins making frightening decisions for them. Threats and guns are part of it, but the misuse of a teen girl's private image may be the harder conversation at home. We would wait until M.

Uplifting themes

It asks whether convenience is worth surrendering privacy at home. The caution about trusting tech with family life is clear even when the plot goes wild Parents try to protect their kids once the threat is obvious. Plenty of adults also ignore warning signs until it is late

Story (may spoil tone)

Curtis Pike and his family are selected to test a new home device: a digital assistant called AIA. AIA observes the family's behaviors and begins to anticipate their needs. And she can – and will – make sure nothing – and no one – gets in her family's way.

A private image of a teenage girl is manipulated into pornography online. The film also includes blunt talk about nudity. The violation of her image matters more here than a conventional sex scene

A 17-year-old faces the horror of her image being turned into child pornography and shared. The film treats that exploitation as a serious plot beat, not a throwaway joke

The family's teens live inside the experiment, and dialogue raises kidnapping of children. Minors stay in the danger zone of a machine that will not let go

Guns appear and deaths are discussed after the AI acts. Injury detail stays limited compared with harder thrillers, but the weapons are not pretend

Family stress, paranoia, and the feeling of being watched wear on everyone in the house. The film is more about losing control than a clinical mental-health story

Talk after watching

  • Would you let a device listen in every room if it promised to keep your family safer?
  • When a teen's private photo is twisted into something public, what should adults do first?
