Why our age differs

Official is M. We say 15+ because frequent gun battles and child peril in the opening mission push past a lighter action night

Our take

The Losers is a flashy comic-book action film about elite soldiers left for dead who team up with a mysterious ally for revenge. Gunfights, explosions, and betrayal fill the runtime, including a mission that puts children in the path of an airstrike. Mild sexual banter and occasional swearing sit under the quips. The frequent shoot-outs and early danger to children give the quippy action real weight.

Uplifting themes

Loyalty among the surviving team and a drive to right a betrayal sit under the explosions. The film still solves most problems with bigger guns The squad looks out for one another once they regroup. Their revenge path glamorizes lethal payback more than careful justice

Story (may spoil tone)

On a mission deep in the Bolivian jungle, a team of elite commandos finds itself on the receiving end of a lethal betrayal. Now presumed dead, the men join forces with a mysterious operative named Aisha to hunt down their enemy and even the score.

Soldiers trade hard banter and strong words between missions, in line with a PG-13 action cut. Swearing flavors the quips without turning into a stand-up set

An early mission puts children in the blast path of an airstrike that seals the team's fate. That beat is brief but heavy for an otherwise wisecracking action film

Guns, explosives, and battlefield deaths show up often, with some blood on the action. Graphic lingering wounds are not the main draw

Talk after watching

  • The team is betrayed by people who were supposed to be on their side. How do you rebuild trust after that?
  • A mission goes wrong around kids in danger. Why should rules of engagement matter even in a comic-book story?
