Our take

An MA 15+ horror sequel set decades after the rage virus. The rating cites strong bloody violence, grisly images, graphic nudity, language and brief sexuality. Infected attacks, decapitations and non-sexual full nudity among infected run throughout. A graphic childbirth scene and animal cruelty may disturb many viewers. Adults only; not a teen franchise entry.

Uplifting themes

Courage under siege appears, but horror dominates the tone Protective adults emerge, though morality stays bleak

Story (may spoil tone)

Twenty-eight years after the Rage virus outbreak, a heavily-defended island survives connected to the mainland by a single causeway. When one of the group leaves the island into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

Talk after watching

  • The infected behave differently here than in earlier films. How does horror change when rules shift?
  • Survival stories often ask what people will do to protect family. Where do you draw lines?
