Why our age differs

Official is MA 15+. We say 16+ because the slaughter sequences and cult imagery are meant to shock adults, and the language includes sexual slurs during attacks

Our take

Frank Grillo protects a senator who wants to end the annual crime holiday while neo-Nazis and tourists hunt victims. Masked gangs, fire, and point-blank shootings dominate the night. Slurs and the f-word are shouted in celebration of violence, and a rape threat appears in a confrontation. We land at 16 and up because the franchise treats murder as sport on screen, not just in speeches

Uplifting themes

Ending the Purge and protecting voters carry an anti-violence message, but most runtime celebrates cathartic murder Leo and the senator risk their lives for others, yet the world around them rewards brutality. Heroes fight fire with fire

Story (may spoil tone)

Two years after choosing not to kill the man who killed his son, former police sergeant Leo Barnes has become head of security for Senator Charlene Roan, the front runner in the next Presidential election due to her vow to eliminate the Purge. On the night of what should be the final Purge, a betrayal from within the government forces Barnes and Roan out onto the street where they must fight to survive the night.

  • The Purge legalises crime for one night. What would that do to trust in a real community?
  • Senator Roan argues the Purge hurts poor people most. How do you see power and safety showing up in the story?
